lost in thought
with Heather Swanson

Lead Designer, Global Pest Control,
SC Johnson & Son, Inc.

I’m inspired by the perseverance of the human spirit.

To me, brilliant is continuous curiosity, lifelong learning, and the courage to be unpopular.

When I’m having a creative block, I give a loved one a kiss along with a sincere expression of gratitude.

My favorite ad campaign is the Nike challenge (men vs. women) running campaign. GO WOMEN.

The best advice I ever received was from my grandma – “never be afraid to make mistakes; own them, share them, learn from them, and don’t make the same mistake twice unless you truly had fun the first time around.”

I think the Kardashians are… YAWN.

At least once, everyone should share what they have experienced with everyone on the planet.

The best way to unwind after a long day is heading out for a trail run. The quiet beauty of nature helps shake away any undesirable remnants from the day. Some of the best solutions I’ve put forward have been born during a long run through thickets of pine.

The smartest person I’ve ever worked with are too many to list - everyone I’ve worked with has been the smartest at something.
I’m looking for but can’t find running shorts for women with an inseam longer than 3”.

If I had a one year sabbatical, I would help evolve sustainable clean water solutions in developing countries

I can’t wait to learn from others at FUSE 2015.

At the moment, I’m obsessed with tiny house nation.

As of now, I’m totally over gender specific packaging and toys.

I’d define my personal style as resilient.

My tools of the trade are pen and paper.

I lead by learning what motivates my teammates, then inspiring and supporting them to reach beyond their own expectations.

I wish I could design sustainable world peace…I’m looking for collaborators...

You can usually find me happy.

The last stamp on my passport was Sau Paulo, Brazil.

The next stamp on my passport is Sweden.

When I look back on my career I will be thankful and grateful to all the people that encouraged, inspired, pushed, and supported me along the way.
